Standard Course FAQ

How many classes will I have?

You will have 20 lessons per week, 4 classes per day. 2 grammar classes and 2 classes applying the 4 key skills; Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. In the unlikely event a class has 1 or 2 students, weekly lessons will be upgraded to 15 private or semi-private lessons with 3 classes per day, ensuring efficient time allocation without compromising learning progress.

How long is a lesson?

Each lesson is 45 minutes long with short breaks in between each lesson of 5-10 minutes.

How does the class schedule work?

Meiji Academy operates like a university, meaning classes may vary, with some days featuring morning sessions and other days afternoon sessions. It's impossible to tell what time you will be having classes, as schedules for each week only get released the week before once your course starts. Morning classes from 9:00-12:20 and afternoon classes from 13:10-16:30.

Are classes held during public holidays?

Meiji Academy is an officially registered Japanese Language School by the Japan Ministry of Education and Japan Immigration Bureau. Therefore, we are committed to following a certain number of national and public holidays to allow our students to take part in extracurricular activities. Extracurricular activities will take place as a replacement for Japanese language classes.

What language will be used during class?

All our classes will be taught in Japanese, yet our teachers understand English. However, our teachers are very experienced in using communicative Japanese teaching methods primarily for Western students, e.g., role-plays and mimics to ensure that even complete beginners won’t get lost.

How much will I learn?

There is no limit! We will provide you with our expertise and teaching methods, but eventually, it’s up to how much effort you put into it. If you still feel your learning appetite exceeds the course, we recommend adding Private Lessons for personally customized teaching sessions to further maximize your study goals.

What about activities and events?

No activities are included in this course, but we offer an abundance of other activities for you to choose from .
