How Transfer Credits Are Determined 💡

Step 1: Gather Course Documentation

When you finish a course at Meiji Academy, your home university typically requests detailed documents such as syllabi, course descriptions, teaching hours, and expected student workload.

Step 2: Compare Courses for Credit Equivalency

Your home university will then compare the Meiji Academy course to its own offerings to determine an equivalent credit value.

Step 3: Understand Credit Hour Measurement

Most systems use a “credit hour” or “credit point” system, which reflects the total number of hours of instruction and the independent study required.

WIDELY USED GLOBAL CREDIT SYSTEMS

As Meiji Academy is an officially recognized academic institution by The Japan Ministry of Education, we fulfill the requirements to participate in university programs geared towards transferable credits for overseas studies.

Take Advantage With Meiji’s Certified Study Accreditations

Below is a sample list of universities and business schools that have granted their students course credit for studying at Meiji Academy. Nonetheless, this does not ensure that all students from the same institution receive credit.

Even if your university is not listed among those who have previously granted credit for studies at Meiji Academy, they may still consider accepting our credit courses. The decision rests solely with your institution, and specific requirements can vary between universities. Despite that, we are committed to collaborating with your university to meet its criteria, whether that involves providing detailed course materials, outlining study topics, administering final exams, or specifying grading methods. University Credits FAQs

Can I earn university credit while studying at Meiji Academy?

Yes, in many cases! While the decision ultimately rests with your home university, Meiji Academy regularly provides course documentation to help students receive credit for their Japanese language studies.

How do I know if my university already accepts credits from Meiji Academy?

Check with your study abroad or academic advisor. You can also reference our list of partners and previously credit-granting universities on this page. If your university is not listed, don’t worry! Many educational institutions evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

I’m not sure what my university needs. Can Meiji help?

Absolutely. Just ask! We’re happy to communicate with your university or provide any documentation they request to support your credit transfer process.

My university isn’t on your list. Should I still apply?

Yes. Many students receive credit even if their university hasn't previously partnered with us. Each case is unique, and we’ll support you in presenting your academic record for credit review.

Will my credits automatically transfer?

Not necessarily. Your home university decides whether and how many credits you’ll receive. We recommend early communication with your academic advisor or study abroad office.

How do I apply for any university credit program through Meiji Academy?

First, apply to Meiji Academy and indicate your interest in receiving academic credit. Second, submit required documents and pay the School of Record fee (if needed) 60 days before your course begins. Third, study with us, pass your assessments, and receive your transcript.

Can I request a transcript after I’ve completed my studies?

Yes, you can. However, for official School of Record transcripts, it's best to notify us and complete the steps before your course starts, especially if you’re from the US. The General Study Transcript is free as long as you request it before your graduation. Otherwise we will impose an additional administration fee of ¥5,000.

Are there grade requirements to earn credit?

Yes. You must successfully complete your coursework and pass final assessments. If you’re applying for credit through the School of Record, they will only issue transcripts for passed courses.

Is Meiji Academy accredited?

Yes, by several governments and international institutions. Meiji Academy is recognized by the Japan Ministry of Education, the German & Austrian Governments for Educational Leave, the Swedish National Student Scholarship Foundation, and is accredited by a US University acting exclusively as our School of Record, to name a few.
