Summer, Sun, Fun in Nippon

Summer is the best time to escape Japan’s hot and humid rainy season and discover Hokkaido’s wonderful Summer landscape. Our school is located in Sapporo, Japan’s 4th largest city, yet does not feel crowded. With mild temperatures around 20~25°C Sapporo has abundant green parks, nearby hiking trails, and super-friendly locals, making it a perfect place to study Japanese in a calm and pleasant environment.

Sapporo is a major study hub for Japanese university students from all across Japan, which provides a perfect environment to make a lot of Japanese friends and participate in many language exchange and social activities we held. This course is specifically created for our Hokkaido campus to give you full cultural exposure paired with many fun outdoor activities to make the coming Summer an unforgettable journey of a lifetime. As study spots are limited for this course, we recommend to apply early. If spots are filled for your requested dates, we might suggest later dates. Please note that activities cannot be chosen and schedules might vary from the suggested activities below due to availability and seasonal changes.

Summer Course FAQ

I have never studied Japanese before, can I apply for this course?

Yes, of course! However, total beginners can only start on the first Monday of each month.

When does the course start and how long can I take it?

Meiji's Summer course takes place during June, July, and August. You can take this course between 2-12 weeks.

What’s the difference between the Summer course and a regular Standard Course with Traditional Culture or Pop Culture?

They are indeed similar, yet have different components, e.g. special activities and excursions we only offer for the Summer period. There might be some overlapping activities with other modules, but we will ensure you have fun activities for the whole Summer :)

What type of classes and activities will I have?

You will study 20 lessons of Japanese per week, and take 3 cultural or outdoor activities, such as tea ceremony, nearby mountain hiking, park visits, Taiko drumming, Yukata Wearing, Katana Sword Training, and many more! Some specific activities will take place on Saturdays depending on the season and availability.

Are all Summer excursions included in the course?

No, some excursions to far away destinations, e.g. Furano Lavender Farm, Asahikawa, Biei or Hakodate are separately charged and optional. We will inform you about the exact prices of these trips and you can sign up for them a week in advance.
