Finding a comfortable place to live in Japan is challenging and time-consuming, yet it is one of the most important things to make your stay with us unforgettable. Meiji Academy has arranged and carefully selected several types of accommodation to ensure you have a suitable place to live in during your stay in Japan.
Note: Everyone under the age of 18 must stay with a host family.
Types of Accommodation
Each accommodation has its set of advantages, please have a look at the descriptions below to decide which type suits you best.
Private Apartment
We have fully furnished and high standard private apartments to make you feel at home. Japanese apartments are commonly called “Apaato” in Japanese. You can expect a standardized condominium apartment with all necessary facilities. The apartments are centrally located and include a washing machine, bed, microwave, refrigerator, table, cutlery, and wifi.

Share House
Sharing accommodation is, by far, the best way to make friends and gives you a fair amount of freedom. Share houses are usually owned by Japanese people or foreigners and are more spacious than room shares. You will get your own private room, but share other facilities such as kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and living room with other residents. Usually, other residents are Japanese people and foreign students, which means more opportunities to make local and international friends and share the fun! Share houses that we have arranged are located within 30-45 minutes by public transport to our school. Please note that this option is available for students who intend to stay for at least four weeks. Internet access is provided.

Room Share
Sharing accommodation is, by far, the best way to make friends and gives you a fair amount of freedom as other residents may not be at home all the time. You will share your room with another student (maximum of two persons in one room), as well as other facilities such as kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and living room with your flatmate(s). Also, please note that meals are not included, and you are expected to look after yourself. Most of these accommodations are located within 30 minutes by bus or train to our school. Please be aware that a 20.000JPY deposit is required (fully refundable). Guest rules might apply. Room share is available for students who intend to stay for a minimum of two weeks. All room shares have internet access.

Homestay
What better way is there to experience total cultural immersion and exchange than to live with locals? Our Japanese families are experienced in housing international students and are very friendly, no need to worry about your Japanese skills! A homestay gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the daily life of a Japanese family and make the most of your experience in Japan. You will enrich your understanding and practice at home what you learn during your lessons.Breakfast is included, and dinner can be arranged separately. You will get your own private room but share other facilities with family members. Our host families are usually located within 30 to 60 minutes by public transportation to our school. Please note that places are limited, therefore contact us as soon as possible to get a spot! Note: curfew and guest rules might apply.
